Building Harmer’s Town Art Center

The Next Chapter Begins in 2027

Harmer’s Town Art Center is preparing to bring its ambitious vision to life: a regional destination where art, history, education, and community come together by the bay.

 

Site preparation is expected in late 2026, followed by major construction in early 2027 and a projected grand opening in late 2027.

Construction Updates and Graw Alley Access

Because construction will take place next to Graw Alley Park, temporary closures or access changes may be necessary. Updates will be shared here as the project progresses. We appreciate your patience as we safely bring this vision to life.

Construction Update: Harmer's Town Art Center

Planning and design are complete, and the project is entering its next phase. Demolition of the existing building is scheduled for late 2026, with construction of the new facility beginning shortly thereafter. The center is expected to be open by the end of 2027. 

When completed, Harmer's Town Art Center will support working artists, expand educational opportunities for students, residents, and underserved communities, strengthen cultural tourism, preserve the history of Havre de Grace, and serve as a lasting cultural and economic asset for generations to come.

Building & Construction FAQs

Will the existing at 123 Market Street be preserved?

Unfortunately, the state of the existing structure is not safe to be repurposed and the cost to repair and preserve would be prohibitive of the vision for the new center construction.

Will Ezra Berger’s murals be preserved?

Murals on adjacent buildings in Graw Alley will not be impacted by the new construction. We are exploring several methods through which the murals on the 123 Market Street building can be recreated to ensure that they remain a vibrant feature of Harmer’s Town Art Center.

 

Will the Interactive Mural Park be open during construction? 

Yes. While construction fencing may be up at various points in time, Graw Alley will remain safely accessible throughout construction.
